Jerry and his Determination

By Jaxson S.

Determination is not just a feeling, it is the way someone acts, the words they use and attitude towards different things, ideas, people, and places. Many people show determination in sports , their work and school. In “President Cleveland, Where are you”

Jerry is the most determined to complete the card set.

Jerry spent his own time and money on buying cards. He rode all around town to buy and trade cards. Also, he worked for money by doing chores for the elderly.

Jerry would use strong, convincing language and actions to show his determination. Jerry would say “I am” frequently. Also, he would make sure that everyone knew how close he was to completing the set.

Jerry would win new cards every day. One day Jerry won five new cards. He won cards all day, every day. That would scare the others.

As you can see Jerry was super determined. When you are determined your outcome is more likely to happen the way you want it. However, don't get cocky. Cockyness lead to people not liking you.

Jerry’s Determination

By Vincent M.

When people are determined to find or have something  it can come to the point where it takes up a part of their life. When I was younger I wanted this comic called Blackest Night. I was very determined to get it. Determination is shown in the short story “President Cleveland where are you?” In the book Jerry (the main character) is the most determined to find all of the president cards.

Jerry would go anywhere to get the cards. Jerry rode all the way to the north side (which is a long while away) to just get one card. He also rode through the entire town to find someone with the cards he needs. Overall he would go anywhere to get the cards.

Jerry went through great lengths to get the cards. He said, “I was too obsessed with the cards because they had become things of comfort in a world that had suddenly grown dismal.” This means he would do anything for the cards. He even argued with the shop owner for a new set of cards because he wouldn’t sell a new set.

Jerry would argue with anyone to get the cards. He once went to the northside with a friend and went against two huge guys and came back with two new cards. He later argued with the shop owner to show him the rules. Overall he would do anything to get the cards.

Throughout the story it is shown that Jerry would do many things to get the cards. Jerry would go anywhere, and go through anyone to get the cards. In life you should always be determined to reach your goals.
